While hiking around the duck ponds at Tingley Beach, I noticed a little Pied-Billed Grebe splashing around. When I zoomed in for a closer look, I saw him with a HUGE fish!

Pied-Billed Grebe

Look at the size of that fish!
I watched this little grebe try and try and try to swallow that fish.
At one point he dropped it.
But he quickly retrieved it. I left him carrying his huge fish around. I can’t imagine he ever swallowed it, but who knows!

Greedy Grebe!
That’s a great set of photos. I especially like the ones head on. Had me laughing out loud. Thanks!
Thanks Vickbird! 🙂
Nice catch by both of you!
Thanks!
Thanks Michael!
It is amazing what these small birds can put away 1nM! They just have to swallow it, but this one picked on one larger than its mouth. This is a specie of Grebe I have never seen, thanks for sharing.
Thanks aussiebirder! This species of Grebe is very small. I think it’s eyes were definitely bigger than its stomach or mouth! Lol!
Very cool to see and photograph something like this. He probably did get it down
You’re probably right! I kept hoping I’d see him choke it down, but I figured it was going to take him a while longer 🙂
Excellent shots. I especially like the one where the bird is facing you!
Thanks Belinda! I liked that pic too…shows how big his catch was.
That is one greedy Grebe!
Great shots Kelly! I love all the different angles you captured:-)
Thanks Stephanie! He was busy turning and swimming trying in vain to get that fish down.
Great action shots! Now I wonder too if he ever managed to swallow it. He sure put in an effort though! 🙂
Thanks Donna! He was persistent!
