Hummingbirds and more…

I’ve been just hanging out at home working and gardening. But I’m very entertained by all my birds at the house. I put out lots of water and a variety of food.

Around the fourth of July the calliope and rufous hummingbirds arrived at my house. So for the next few months I will have four varieties to enjoy.

Lots of babies around home the last couple weeks.
A very good friend of mine built me a bird house a couple years ago. This year I was happy to report that a Bewick Wren nested in it this year.

Not long after noticing the nest box was occupied they flew the coop!

While walking Scarlett I saw a baby Canyon Towhee baby. I stood at watched it and it hopped over to me out in the street…much to the parents’ distress!

So I picked it up and put it in a safer place…to the parents’ relief! Lol!

I had a ladderback woodpecker bring its young in to feed on the bark butter I put out for them.

My spotted towhees had a couple of kids. Took me awhile to recognize what species the juveniles were.

One day I got to go visit Bill and Capulin Springs and spotted a couple of good birds. One of which was a new sighting for me. A Grace’s Warbler.

Still not good at identifying butterflies. Will have to research a few of these further.

Scarlett can go hiking now so I should have more interesting posts in the future 🙂

This and That

The last couple of weeks I didn’t go on any trips or outings.  Work has been busy and Miss Scarlett still can’t go out on trails. So I spent most of my time at home or at my friend Valerie’s house.

The birds around my home have been busy raising their young. I have several food and water sources so I have quite a variety of birds.

Even my bantam game hen had babies. Look closely and you will see the chick breaking open its shell

One of the babies...only a few hours old!

I was hoping to see birds at Valerie’s. She lives in Placitas. I didn’t see any birds but got to enjoy a fabulous sunset.

My gardens are doing well at home. The blooms are bringing in quite a variety of insects.

While walking Scarlett around the neighborhood I’ve enjoyed some wonderful wildlife.

So even though I didn’t go on any trips…I am very much enjoying this wonderful summer.

Is it Obvious?

Scarlett loves water! She has discovered that playing with the hose is fun…especially on a hot summer day 🙂

After playing hard she decided decided she needed to sit in the swing with me….less a cushion or two after scrambling up 🙂

Miss Scarlett is growing up quickly. She is learning a lot from Samson. She loves to imitate him.

She’s also learning things from her friend Mya.  The last time they played together Scarlett was focused on herding Mya while Mya focused on her ball. 🙂
